WAGGA - BIOGRAPHY

A big truck was cruising through the Australian bush. On that truck was a guitar-player from a small country called the Netherlands. He's from an even smaller town called Beek. He drank too much coffee, he was alone. Numb because of the long journey and knowing he was only halfway across the continent, he tried to describe the way he was feeling. Suddenly a roadsign flashed by. 'Wagga Wagga' it said. The man smiled and whispered 'Exactly'.

'Wagga Wagga' now is shortened to Wagga and nowadays means much more than just the feeling of a guitar-player somewhere down-under. Wagga is a rockband, Wagga means rock played in the Wagga way. Five men inspired by the legace of Jimi, the Beatles and the Stones, driven by the sound of the nineties and bands such as Black Crowes, Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Live.

Since its foundation in 1995 the band has experienced a meteoric rise in popularity. Wagga has performed at several festivals and small venues. The band has performed live on air on three radiostations. The absolute highlight up till now has been a performance in the summer of '96 as a supporting act to Vandenbergs Bert Heerink. Wagga knows what it means to perform on stage.

After the super start they've made (which scared them off a bit) came a period of reflection. The quality has and always will be there, but still it had to be more structured. So after auditions a new bass-player and drummer joined the band to enhance the rhythm-section.

Wagga now is finally complete, and comprises:

Pieter Remers on vocals
Pieter Smits on guitar and vocals
Bas Poort on guitar and vocals
Bjorn Gerrits on drums
Menne G. Talsma on bassguitar

The band has decided to lay more emphasis on Wagga songs instead of playing covers. Some of these songs have existed since the bands formation but were never really explored. Now that they are, the bands first CD has been released. Wagga has created its own sound. Raw songs like 'In Deep' and 'Bitch' and ballads like 'Will She Love Me' and 'U Say' are not only solid as rock but impressive like a mountain as well. Nowadays on stage cover songs like 'Peaches', 'Let It Be' and 'I Alone' are still on the play-list, but are being performed their own special way, without destroying the beauty of the songs.

Wagga is back and is more mature than ever. And if you want to know what makes Wagga unique 'The five of them are completely different but together they are complete'.
